We moved into our new Newton office space a couple moths ago and despite my nerves about becoming wholly suburban, I have to admit, I seriously love it. I am so much less stressed, more productive and it’s quite cheery and home-y. We’ll do the big reveal once this book is done and I have time to put finishing touches on the space, but we did re-do the back library space thanks to a partnership with Launched in 2007 in partnership with the Heart of America Foundation, the Target School Library Makeover program breathes new life into elementary school libraries across the country. Each remodeled library gets 2,000 new books and a complete technology upgrade including iPads, interactive white boards and seven new books for each student to take home. As a result of programs like this Target is on track to give $1 billion to education by the end of 2015. Just one more reason to be addicted to shopping at good ol’ Tar-jay!
In the spirit of this great program, our little library got a facelift from this sad, depressing “before” picture, to something fun, functional and pretty!
Before we could outfit the space to be functional, we needed to rip out the dirty old carpet and paint. We replaced the flooring with to make a but of a statement. Then we painted the walls Benjamin Moore’s Space Black (left over from my bathroom at home). The rest of the office is a bold, bright coral also by Ben Moore called All A Blaze.
What a DIFFERENCE, huh? We stocked the room with two Threshold wood and metal bookcases that happened to fit perfectly and filled them with linen covered storage boxes for samples. We hung a little gold and white antler plaque on the wall for a little pizzazz!
We store some of our favorite design books in there like At Home with Town & Country, Jeffrey Allan Marks’ new book, Thom Filicia’s tome and of course, the Domino book! We topped it with a great, heavy agate bookend and also picked up this awesome snake handled wooden box to hols small things like picture hangers, nails and screws.
We fitted the adjacent wall with hooks to hold sample rings and book and even blueprints! And I cannot even TELL you how obsessed I am with these Nate Berkus baskets. I have one at home too with my fiddle leaf fig tree in it!
Love the label spaces on these boxes! Everything in it’s place!
We have a little min-kitchen in there too for coffee and snacks. Leopard mugs too, of course.
Here are some great books to grab for yourself or others for the holiday season as well as all the items shown in our makeover.
